He was predeceased by: his father Herbert Bussing; his wife Shelby Hulbert; his son Robert Bussing II; his brother Jerry Bussing; his sister-in-law Lisa Bussing; his mother Josephine Coolidge (Rakestraw); and his stepfather Ward Coolidge.

He is survived by: his daughter Brenda Petersen (Pete) of Ames, IA; his granddaughters, Kelly Baldwin (Casey) of Perry, IA and Amy Hartnett (Will) of Telluride, CO; his great grandchildren, Reagan, Declan, Tenley Baldwin, Vivian and Maeve Hartnett; his niece Janice AcMoody (Vern) of Union City, MI.; and his sister Judy Jones (Dave). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
