He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Malo and Eva Malo (Gagnon); his wife Sonja Peterson; and his sisters, Gladys Charbonneau and Ruth Malo.

He is survived by: his children, Karla Efurd (Chris) of Abilene and Kevin Malo (Marie) of Abilene; his grandchildren, JoAnna Baker (Thomas), Matthew Malo (Alisha), Kristen and Carrie Efurd; his great grandchildren, Kalan, Lennox Baker and Isla Malo; his sister Marjorie Asper of Livingston; and his sister-in-law Sharon Schad (Wayne) of Edmond, Oklahoma..

The family suggests memorials me given to the Alzheimer's Association.
