He was predeceased by: his parents, John Rutter and Jacqueline Rutter (Corliss); his wife Sara Rutter (Lanning); and his daughter Lisa Lynn Rutter. He is survived by: his children, Pamela Rutter, Chad Rutter (Kimberly), Amy Isaacs (David), Eric Dockins (Jennifer), Rita Bennett (Todd) and Christopher Dockins (Jill); and his siblings, John Daniel Rutter (Zaida), Marion Kim Flynn, Marta Lynn Stephens (Glenn) and Brian Craig Rutter (Patty). He is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
Instead of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in memory of James D. and Sara Rutter.
