He was predeceased by : his parents, Oscar Gruenbacher and Ludwena Gruenbacher (Gerber); his siblings, Albert, Louis, Cyril, Maurice, Arthur, Dorothy Gruenbacher, Alice Martin, Marie Pierce, Bertha Simon, Laura Seiler and Inez Seiler; and his son-in-law Victor May.

He is survived by : his wife Patricia Thimmesch; his children, Dennis (Suzanne), Wilma Kreitler (Michael), Kathleen May and Virginia Patry (Michael); and his grandchildren, Shelley Stucky, Brent Gruenbacher, Kraig Kreitler, Krista Bloesing, Kim Brown, Troy May, Tamie May, Tonya May, Scott Patry, Clint Patry and Jill Thompson. He is also survived by his 18 great-grandchildren.

A rosary was held on Friday, April 19th 2024 at 10:00 AM at the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church (645 N 119th St W, Wichita, KS 67235). A funeral Mass was held on Friday, April 19th 2024 at 10:30 AM at the same location.
