He was predeceased by: his parents, Betty J. Payton (Buckett) and Melvin D. Payton; and his siblings, Dorvin "Sonny" Davis and Doris Plummer. He is survived by: his children, Allen Payton of Augusta and Paige Payton of Augusta; his sister Joyce Brown of Augusta; and his former wife Tommie Payton.
