He was predeceased by: his parents, Arie Der and Marie Van Der (Jansen); and his son Thomas Van Der Zalm. He is survived by: his children, Susan Sims, Laura Dolan (John), Robert Van Der (Jayne) and Julia Van Der Zalm; his grandchildren, Jeffrey Cammiso, Danielle Warth (Michael), Jessica Wilson (Justin), Timothy Blair (Gabby), Rachel Dolan-Nielsen (Mathias), Megan Dolan-Smithsakol (Tana), Thomas Dolan, Jessica Dolan, Justin Van Der Zalm, Tyler Van Der Zalm, Morgan Van Der Zalm, Samuel Dickey and Matthew Levi Dickey; his siblings, Hans Van Der (Marja), Adrian Van Der (Betty) and Ria Jansen; and his former wife Gail Stoffel (Marcotte). He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 26th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the St Mary Catholic Church (108 E Washington St, Downs, IL 61736). A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, October 26th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Ted, may be made to the Bishop Edward O'Rourke Council at St. Mary's Church, Downs, IL (Knights of Columbus).
