He was predeceased by: his parents, Peter Schmitz and Mary Schmitz; his wife Dorothy; his daughter Brenda; and his siblings, Leonard, Joseph, Leo, Frank, Ben, Tony, Matt, Adelbert, Robert, Katie and Geneva.

He is survived by: his children, Mark (Gayla) of Lawrence, Michael (Colleen) of Weatherford, Deborah of Winfield and Leonard (Kellie) of Fort Smith; his grandchildren, Adam, Emily, Miranda, Justin, Michelle and Andrew Schmitz; and his great grandchildren, Jaxon, Emma and George.

Memorials may be made to Futures Unlimited, Kansas for Life or to the Caldwell Regional Health Foundation and sent in care of the mortuary.
