He was predeceased by: his parents, Kay Nickels and Liddie Nickels (Knight); his daughter Carla Rey; his grandson Malachi Rey; and his siblings, Maudie Taylor, Virginia Leslie and Clifford Nickels.
He is survived by: his wife Frances Nickels (Thompson); his children, Jim Nickels of Viola, Cena Harvey (Bill) of Garden Plain and Carol Manes (Clifford) of Clearwater; and his grandchildren, Dev Rey (Kristi), Nicole Hackler (Wayne), Christene Buckley (Seth), Janelle Walter (Keithon), Scott Harvey (Jessica), Joseph Harvey (Mikala), Larry Manes, Dean Manes and Laura Alarcon (Mike). He is also survived by three step-children; twelve great-grandchildren.
