We announce the death of Robert Wayne Atkinson Jr. in Derby, Kansas, who passed away on August 28, 2026, at the age of 86. Robert will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Atkinson, Sr. and Nina Aline Atkinson (Clarke); his brothers, Gary and Stanley; and his son Travis (Valerie).
He is survived by: his wife Carole; his sons, Chad Atkinson (Ragan), Justin Atkinson (Hollie) and Brad Atkinson (Barbie); his grandchildren, Alondra Cummings (Spencer), Elias Atkinson, Hyrum Atkinson, Faith Allan (Tate), Samantha Atkinson, Ethan Atkinson, Broc Atkinson (Tiffany), Parker Atkinson, Emily Kordakis (Chris), Jacob Atkinson, Benjamin Atkinson (Vanessa), Heather Ferguson (Mike), Nicole Gillispie (Jacob), Bryce Atkinson (Delaney) and Brooke Atkinson; and his great grandchildren, Trent, Hailey, Zachary Fleenor, Riley Allan, Martin, Jocelyn, Ben Atkinson, Max, Liam Kordakis, Delila Atkinson, Declan, Beckett Ferguson, Annie, Fletcher Gillispie and Witt Atkinson.
Visitation was held on Friday, September 4th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Smith Family Mortuary (1415 N Rock Rd, Derby, KS 67037). A celebration of life was held on Saturday, September 5th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (1409 S Rock Rd, Derby, KS 67037).
