He was predeceased by: his parents, Sam Smith and Susie Smith (Unruh); and his siblings, Pearl, Irene, Viola, Verda, Frances, Erv and Vernon.

He is survived by: his wife Shirley Koehn of Montezuma; his children, Richard Smith (Janet) of Olathe and Trista Bray (Raymond) of Dodge City; his grandchildren, Alex Smith, Lindsay Church, Emily Smith, Cody Lampe and Cassandra Lampe; his sister Doris Friesen (Bill); and his sisters-in-law, Betty Anthony of Satanta and Judy Dietz (Rod) of Wichita. He is also survived by four step grandchildren, five great grandchildren, seven step great grandchildren, five step great great grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to Grace Community Church of Dodge City in care of Swaim Funeral Chapel.
