With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Mary M. Downing of Emporia, Kansas, born in Carrollton, Missouri, who passed away on November 10, 2022 at the age of 91. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Mary M. Downing to pay them a last tribute.
She was predeceased by : her parents, Maurice G. Mills and Marie Anderson Mills; and her brother Bob Mills. She is survived by : her husband George L. Downing; her children, George M. Downing (Annie) of Rose Hill, John R. Downing (Debbie) of Olathe, Kansas and Lynn Marie Hobson of Emporia; her grandchildren, Rick Hobson (Alexa), Tess Hobson, Paige Mitchell (Nate), Haley Ramirez (Nelson) and Zach Downing (Sarah); her great grandchild Xander Hobson; her sister Elaine Mills Swank of Kansas City, Missouri; and her sisters-in-law, Eleanor Mills and Ann McGlaughlin. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
In her memory the family requests memorial donations be made to ESU's Emporia Symphony Orchestra Prelude Scholarship, which was established by Mary and George several years ago. Donations can be mailed to the ESU Foundation at 1500 Highland Street, Emporia, KS 66801.
