He was predeceased by: his parents, Dorothy Palmer (Elbrader) and Charles Palmer; his wife Shirley Palmer (Hoggatt); and his sister Nancy Ransom. He is survived by: his sons, Brian (Carla) of Olathe and Gary (Kylene) of Fort Scott; his grandchildren, John (Katelyn) of Lenexa, Elizabeth (Elijah Vandepol) of Spring Hill, Sadie Marchiano of Fort Scott, Lexi (Cody Wilson) of Fort Scott, Riley Marchiano and Jentry Palmer of Fort Scott; his great grandchildren, Noah Palmer, Emma Palmer, Brooks Vandepol and Braden Vandepol; and his siblings, Betty Kay Clary of Fort Scott and Robert (Vanessa Palmer) of Garnett, Kansas..
