He is survived by: his children, Britany Gadelha (Carlos) of Joplin, MO, Brandon Cates, Benjamin Cates (Vaimiti) of Eugene, OR and Brenton Cates of Austin, TX; his siblings, Dennis Cates of Olathe, KS and Sue Ketchum (Marty) of Broken Arrow, OK; and his grandchildren, Ava Rodriguez, Aiden Rodriguez, Teauroa Cates, Sofia Rodriguez and Temahana Cates. He is also survived by friends, students, and coworkers.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 3rd 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Galena High School. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 3rd 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Galena Education Foundation (GEF) Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home.
