We are sad to announce that, on September 18, 2023, at the age of 85, Ray O. Chappell of Garden City, Kansas, born in Liberal, Kansas passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Chappell and Viola Chappell (Blake); his brother Minor "Bud" Chappell; and his siblings-in-law, John Getchell and Helga Chappell.
He is survived by: his wife Verna Duvall Stevenson; his daughter Shelly (Mike Lutz) of Blanchard, Oklahoma; his stepchildren, Larry Stevenson of Garden City, Tom (Tracy Stevenson) of Gilbert, Tim (Terri Stevenson) of Gilbert, Arizona, Patrice Feldt of Dodge City and Sheri (Rob Silver) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and his sister Patricia Getchell of Sublette, Kansas. He is also survived by 2 grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and several step great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials given to the Ray Chappell Memorial Fund or to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, both in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
