He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Leonard and Pauline Elizabeth Maxwell (Green); his wife Violet D. Helwig; his son Mark Kelly Maxwell; and his siblings, Jim "Jimmy" Maxwell, Robert "Bob" Maxwell (Eileen) and Ruth Madeline "Slaps" Orth (Bill).
He is survived by: his daughters, Cheryl Ann Glassman (Rick) of Hays and Janet Lee "Jan" Maxwell-Naegele of Hays; his grandchildren, Sarah Lynn Glassman of New York City, NY, Lindsay Lee Naegele of Hays, Nicholas "Nick" Wayne Glassman (Caitlin) of Hays and Kelly Mae Maxwell of Round Top, TX; and his great grandchildren, Leeson James and Lynden Erabell Glassman. He is also survived by great grandson due in January, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 3rd 2026 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Friday, September 4th 2026 from 9:00 AM to 9:45 AM at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home (1906 Pine St, Hays, KS 67601). A rosary was held on Thursday, September 3rd 2026 at 5:30 PM at the same location. A vigil service was held on Thursday, September 3rd 2026 at 6:00 PM at the same location. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Friday, September 4th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the St. Joseph Catholic Church (215 W 13th St, Hays, KS 67601).
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials payable to The Band of Angels, Hays Community Theater for the Paula D. Huser Children's Theater, or to Victoria High School, Hays High School or Thomas More Prep-Marian High School designated for their music funds.
