He is survived by: his wife Lisa; his stepchildren, Karl Gaskell (Pamela) of Horton, Kristie Baker (Cory) of Everest, Chelsie Rice (Jason) of Horton, Lindsey Hawk (Ben) of Effingham, Maren, Jay and Tara Hilgert of Omaha; his stepgrandchildren, Isabelle, Austin, Owen Gaskell, Emaleigh, Josie, Ethan Baker, Ryder, Thayer, Sawyer Rice, Harper and Snyder Hawk; his siblings, James Winter (Lea) of Lecompton and Nancy Weingart (John) of Hiawatha; his sister-in-law Lori May of Hiawatha; his nieces and nephews, Elizabeth Olson (Ryan), Emily Weingart, Sara Garrett (Brendon), Annie Bangert (David), Gina Hefner, Jerad Hefner (Ellie), Jake Winter (Emily), Sarah May and Taylor Zimmerling (Daniel); and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Jax, Leo, Ell Olson, Morgan, Carter Garrett, Teigan Moment, Keenan, Kierah, Isaiah, Christian, Kaedon, Elaka, Adrianna, Easton, Harper and Gauge.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, October 6th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM and on Wednesday, October 7th 2026 from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM. A celebration of life was held on Wednesday, October 7th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church - Hiawatha (410 Hiawatha Ave, Hiawatha, KS 66434).
Memorial contributions may be made in Steve's memory to Cemetery District #14 or Homer White American Legion Post 66, in support of commissioning a Purple Heart mural to be painted on the side of a local building.
