He was predeceased by: his parents, Eli Pierson and Marjorie Opeal Merlau (Neal); his wife Melva Jean Donovan; his daughter Mary Lyne Grandclair; and his grandson Ryan Merlau.
He is survived by: his children, Rondy Merlau (Barbara Kieffer), Virgil Merlau of Wichita, Jerry Merlau of Dallas, Texas and Anita Merlau of Clearwater, Florida; and his brother Cecil Leister (Sheri) of Temple, Texas. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
