He was predeceased by : his parents, Jake Dirks and Carrie Dirks (Unruh); and his siblings, Phyllis Bowman and Everett Dirks. He is survived by : his wife Ora Lee Howerton; his children, Hutchinson and Ora Lee; his uncle Bill Unruh; his children, Wayne Dirks (Becky), Clay Dirks (Debbie) and Cindy Fry (Brian); and his grandchildren, Molly Vess (Justin), A. J. Fry (Chelsea) and Janelle Williford (Josh).

A celebration of life was held on Monday, May 20th 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Heritage Funeral Home & Cremation (528 N Main St, Hutchinson, KS 67501). A graveside service was held on Monday, May 20th 2024 at the Fairview Cemetery (7840 S Sandcreek Rd, Hutchinson, KS 67501).
