With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Sonja K. Hayes (Hutchinson, Kansas), who passed away on May 11, 2026 at the age of 87. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Albert Lewis and Lillian Mae Lewis (Magnuson); her siblings, Lewis, Steve Lewis (Julie) and Virginia Bish (Ken); and her brother-in-law Bill Hayes.
She is survived by: her husband James "Jim" Hayes of Hutchinson; her children, Tim Hayes (Kathy) of Kansas City, MO, Brenda Opbroek of Hastings, NE and Kent Hayes (Amy) of Olathe; her grandchildren, Tricia Evans, Meghan Patten, Ashley Hunt, Haley Stroud, Jonathan Hayes, Ryan Hayes, Ian Hayes, Logan Hayes and Zane Gardner; and her siblings-in-law, Gay Lewis of Castleton, Marcia McAnarney (Jim) of Wichita, Jack Hayes (Paula) of Yukon, OK and Neil Hayes (Lynette) of Lawrence. She is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Church of the Holy Cross, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
