She was predeceased by : her parents, Glen Deater and Gertrude Oliver Deater; her former life partner Dewey Powell; and her brothers, Byron and Phillip Deater.

She is survived by : her husband Joseph Hess of Iola, Kansas; and her daughters, Carla Linhart (Mike) of Carroll, Teresa Porter (John) of Derby and Cindy Leibold of Topeka, Kansas. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.
