He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Clyde "H. C." Nickell and Robbie Lee Nickell (Cox); his wife Betty Nickell; his son Harold Nickell; his son-in-law Cecil Meyer, Jr.; and his siblings, Arthur, Arvil, Estle, Leldon of Oral, L. D., Paul Nickell, Zelma Prewitt, Eavel "Johnnie" Palmer, Priscilla Guinn, Aquila Lee and Jewell.
He is survived by: his children, Joyce Meyer of Perryton, TX and Wayne Nickell of West Chicago, IL; his grandchildren, Chad Nickell (Angy) of Ulysses, KS, Chase Nickell (Lettie) of Johnson, KS, Alisha Grover (Mitch) of Johnson, KS and Larin Nickell of Pleasant Prairie, WI; his great grandchildren, Lauren Grover, Ryker Nickell, Kaiser Nickell, Remington Grover, Lia Lee Nickell and Jax Jay Nickell; his sister Ruby Dean Walker of Arlington, TX; and his daughter-in-law Sheryl Fiss (Greg) of Johnson, KS. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
