He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Fred McClain and Marie McClain (Hurla) of Kansas City, Kansas.; his daughter Monica; his siblings, Herb, Fred and Sister Joanilla; his wife Billie Frances; his daughters, Denise Gregory and Jo Ledford (Ken); and his siblings, Harold McClain (Joan), Margaret Baker, Mike McClain (Dorothy) and Robert McLain (Virginia). He was also cherished by Children, including a stepson he loved.
After retiring from Missouri Valley Electric, John joined his stepson and two of his grandsons in the Basement and Foundation repair business, where he quickly became known and affectionately referred to by all as "Papa John".
