He was predeceased by: his parents, Conrad Werner Jr. and Martha Werner (Ruegge); his wife Lois Emshoff; his parents-in-law, Henry and Lillian Emshoff (Hettinger); his sister Patty (Bruce Merten); his sister-in-law Elinor (Willis Freeman); and his grandson Christopher Werner.

He is survived by: his children, Robert Jr. (Kathleen), Melodie Slaymaker (Lloyd), Gregory (Jayne) and Kim Werner (Doug McQuinn). He is also survived by eight grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

Robert worked part time at the Menninger Foundation in Topeka and volunteered at Stormont Vail Hospital.
