He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles E Newman and Sherniece E Howard Newman; his sisters, Roxanne Huggins and Patrice Newman; his grandparents, Verner L Newman Jr. (Gazelle), Gibson Newman and Alfred E Howard Sr. (Dorothy Jane Hill); his aunts and uncles, Verner L. Newman III, Helen M Smith Larry (Richard Smith Sr.), Dorothea M. Howard, Alfred W. "Butch" Howard Jr. (Brenda Green Howard), Eugene Howard, Robert Howard and Phillip Howard; his grandson Reed; his nephew Christopher M Fannin; and his great-niece Mia Lax.

He is survived by: his children, Eric Reed, Derrick Newman, Dominique Newman, Sequoia Newman, Shaquille Cooper, Xavier Newman and Derrius Cooper; his siblings, Denice M. Newman West, Warren E. Newman (Jannice Ware) and Patrick T. Newman (Kelly Fults); and his aunts, Charleen Coleman and Kathryn Newman (Lori Howard).
