He was predeceased by: his parents, Alva Fay Smith and Clara Emma Smith (Taylor); his wife Fredonna Winans Smith; his daughter Christine Smith; and his siblings, Leita Heibsch, Dorthy Holcolm, Clarence, Marvin Smith, Gene, Melvin and Bob Breitsprecher.
He is survived by: his children, Kevin Smith, Karen Hall and Keith Smith (Diana Dissinger); his sister Bess Brown-Brewer; his grandchildren, Tiffany Hall, Kendra Shipley (Scott) and Branden Smith (Casey); and his great grandchild Angel Hall.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 24th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Warren–mcElwain Mortuary (120 W 13th St, Lawrence, KS 66044).
Memorial contributions are suggested to St Jude Children's Research Hospital or Alzheimer's Association and can be sent under Howard's name to Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
