He was predeceased by: his father Rex Nicolay. He is survived by: his mother Mary Ann Nicolay (Schehrer) of Eudora, KS; his son Jason (Sarah-Beth) of Mission Hills, KS; his grandchildren, Emerson, Camden, Weston and Lillian; his brother Monte (Lori) of Spring Hill, KS; and his nephews, Zachary and Jacob.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mark's honor to the Douglas County 4-H Foundation and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.
