He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard William and Charlene Schmidt (Hedwall); his wife Katherine Marie 'Kathy White; his siblings, David and Linda; and his brother-in-law Keith White.
He is survived by: his sons, Richard W. Schmidt III (Wandamarie) of Perry, Kansas, Eric T. Schmidt (Carrie) of Douglasville, Georgia and Steven M. Schmidt (Stephanie) of Marietta, Georgia; his grandchild Papa; his siblings-in-law, Ruth Schmidt of Oregon and Wes Johnson of Washington; Ed White (Peggy) of Lawrence and Paul White (Kathy) of Wichita. He is also survived by several cousins-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Christ Community Church of Lawrence.
