She was predeceased by: her parents, Earl Melvin and Anna Mae Alexander; her husband Richard Charles Atkinson Sr.; her siblings, Earl Alexander Jr., Norma Jane (Lester Lewis), Earlene (Donald Redmon) and Edward (Bobbie); and her granddaughter Malika.
She is survived by: her children, Delores Gatling, Richard Atkinson Jr. (Kathleen), Sondra Wilkerson (Bill), Frederic Atkinson (Cynthia) and Terrence Atkinson Sr. (Cheryl); her brother Alan (Leigh); and her grandchildren, Lai'Tonia, Jessica, Alison (Jared), Rocco, Erin, Adrienne (Nate), Melany, Bradley, Jared (Jennifer), Quincy, Terrence Jr. (Camille), Alexander (Carin) and Austin. She is also survived by her 14 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family.
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 3rd 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home (800 SW 6th Ave, Topeka, KS 66603). A funeral service was held on Friday, September 4th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church (610 SE Lime St, Topeka, KS 66607). The inurnment was held on Tuesday, September 8th 2026 at 2:30 PM at the Leavenworth National Cemetery (150 Muncie Rd, Leavenworth, KS 66048).
