He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Louis "Joe" Scearce and Robbie May Scearce (Fleming); and his siblings, Willa Dene Pace, Dr. William Louis "Bill" Scearce and Joe Leland Scearce.
He is survived by: his wife Virginia "Ginnie" Melzarek Gibbons; his children, Steven, Diane Scearce of Olathe, Andrew "Andy" Scearce and Mai Tasaka of Kyoto, Japan; his stepchildren, Robert Thomas Gibbons III, Amy of Lenexa, Susan Marie Gibbons-Brom and John of Hawthorn Woods, Illinois.; his grandchildren, May Scearce of Kent, WA, Noah Scearce of Kyoto, JP, Miyu Scearce of Kyoto, JP, Abby Ware of Clay Center, KS, Alex Gibbons (Jessup, MD) and Claire Brom of Hawthorn Woods, IL; and his sister Aulena Gibson.
