He was predeceased by: his parents, Lowell Tehven and Darlene Tehven (Huff). He is survived by: his wife Shelly Tehven (Curtis); his daughter Shannon Koupal; his grandchildren, Maddie and Connor Koupal (Shannon); his sister Larisa Tehven; his stepmother Ilene Tehven; his parents-in-law, Lyle, Dilda Curtis, Mike Timmer (Larisa), Cindy Simms, Kent, Laura Kunzler, Tim and Aimee Curtis; his nieces and nephews, Nick (Sydney Swanson), Kaleb (Samantha Bryant), Rachel Kunzler (Laura), Lillian and Colin (Lidia Curtis); his great-nephew Kade Bryant (Samantha); and his goddaughters, Ella and Sadie Courter.

While completing his MBA he received the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation Certificate of Entrepreneurial Achievement.
