He was predeceased by: his parents, Golden Nelson and Jack Nelson; his sister Joyce; and his brother-in-law Dave Phillippi. He is survived by: his wife Gail; his children, Dennis Nelson (Amy), Deanna Leecy and Robyn Stewart (Jimmy); his stepson Troy Hutton; his grandchildren, Jack Nelson, Anna Nelson, Matt Leecy, Lane Leecy, Seth Leecy, Jace Stewart, Carter Stewart of Kale Stewart, T. J and Anisten Hutton; his great grandchildren, Elsie Leecy, Annie Leecy, Pete Leecy, Kinsleigh Leecy, Addie Leecy, Reagan Leecy, Eloise Leecy and Elianna Hutton; and his brother Bernard Nelson.
Visitation was held on Monday, September 29th 2025 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the Westside Family Church (8500 Woodsonia Dr, Lenexa, KS 66227). A funeral service was held on Monday, September 29th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A graveside service was held on Monday, September 29th 2025 at 2:30 PM at the Woodlawn Cemetery.
