He was predeceased by: his parents, Allen Edgar Gates and Ida Cornelia Biggerstaff (Manthe); his brother Dennis Meckling; his stepfather Wilbur Biggerstaff; his brother-in-law Ivan Manthe; and his nephew Virgil Manthe.
He is survived by: his sisters, Patricia Kirk (Allan) of Liberal, KS, Katherine Manthe of Shattuck, OK and Wilma Gates of Lawrence, KS. He is also survived by several Nieces & Nephews.
Visitation was held on Friday, August 8th 2025 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Miller Mortuary (908 N Lincoln Ave, Liberal, KS 67901). A funeral service was held on Monday, August 11th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Miller Mortuary Chapel (908 N Lincoln Ave, Liberal, KS 67901).
