He was predeceased by: his parents, Harvey Bates and Rosie Bates (Williams) of Lucas; his wife Helen Lee Prester; his children, Steven and Beth Wilson; his granddaughter Katherine Bates; his sisters, Bernita May and Carolyn Bates; and his brothers-in-law, Gene Seirer and Charles May.
He is survived by: his family, Lucas Grain and Sylvan Grove; his nieces and nephews, Alan Bates (Judy) and Jerry Bates (Jennifer); his son-in-law Bob Wilson (Lucas); his grandchildren, Christopher Bates (Allison), Amanda Varner, Krystal Rothe (Jeremy), Jerra Bates, Chase, Amy Hernandez (Daniel), Salina and Bill Patton (Lucy); and his siblings, Melvin Bates (Shirley), Marilyn Seirer and Sandra Gates (Jack).
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 28th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Lucas Community Church (322 N Main St, Lucas, KS 67648).
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to: American Legion Post 267, Lucas Community Church or the Lucas Golden Age Center.
