We announce the death of Merlin Porter of Lyons, Kansas, who passed away on August 27, 2026, at the age of 75. Merlin will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. He was predeceased by: his parents, Russell Porter and Bernita Porter (Prideaux); his daughter Tausha Bates; and his brother Troy Porter. He is survived by: his wife Brenda Porter (Diehl) of Lyons, KS; his children, Tiffany Wells (Colby) of Hutchinson, KS, Heather Bachelor (Bruce) of Whitewater, KS, Jason Dutcher of Wichita, KS, Jewel Davis (Joel) of Larned, KS and Mallory Martinez (Anthony) of Olathe, KS; his siblings, Gerald Porter (Phyllis) of Woodland Park, CO, Royce Porter (Anita) of Colby, KS and Rhonda Laufer (Brian) of Atwood, KS; and his grandchildren, Breanna Williams, Brian Muns, Savanna Mendoza, Emma Curry, Riley Edgar, Logan Markus, Tyler Markus, Macie Bachelor, Lars Dutcher, Xander Dutcher, Tara Dutcher, Wyatt Davis, Wesley Davis, Cruz Martinez and Cam Martinez. He is also survived by thirteen great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, September 1st 2026 from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Birzer Funeral Home (214 West Ave S, Lyons, KS 67554). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, September 2nd 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
Memorials may be given to Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
