He was predeceased by: his parents, Stephen Barta and Bernice Barta. He is survived by: his wife Pam Barta; his children, Brooks Barta (Tonya) of Holton, Shelby Villano (Larry) of Phoenix and Carrie Beims (Mitch) of Wichita; his grandchildren, Mason Barta (Rebekkah), Tabor Barta, Alexa, Connor Villano, Tanner, Mia, Paige Gawith and Jack Beims; his stepgrandchildren, Braden and Berkley Beims; and his sister Phyllis Snook (Steve) of Council Bluffs.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Smith Center High School Activity Fund with proceeds to go towards the football program or Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice House in Manhattan.

He will always be remembered as a legend in his time to the many people who were fortunate to know and work with him here in Smith Center and the MCL league he was so famous and admired in. I am one of those people!! Rest in Peace, Roger. We will miss you and always remember what you taught all of us!!!”
