He was predeceased by: his parents, Buster Shafer and Margaret Shafer (Paddock); his son Jaime Joe Shafer; his brother David Lee Shafer; and his grandchildren, Makayla Marie Margaret Shafer, Scott Allen McMannus Jr., Timothy Wayne Shafer and Steven Wayne Brewster.
He is survived by: his children, Vicki (Reinaldo Maldonado) of Overland Park, Paul (Brenda Herndon) of Parsons, John of Lebanon, Tammy Ashwood (Shafer) of Waynesville, Sonja (Michael), Travis (Stacey Shafer) of Crescent, Crystal (Vincent Warren) of Winfield and Danielle Shafer (Eddy Miller) of Pleasanton, Kansas; his adoptive daughters, Brenda Shafer of Fort Scott, Shannon Renee of Lake and Melissa Bailey of Lake; and his brother Kevin Michael Shafer. He is also survived by twenty-six grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
