He was predeceased by : his father Otis C. Hammett; and his brothers, Jeffrey and John Phillip Hammett. He is survived by : his mother Phyllis Hammett (Ellenbecker) of Marysville; his wife Teresa (Ubben); his sons, Jason Hammett (Shannen) of Olathe, KS and Dustin Hammett (Caitlin) of Overland Park, KS; and his siblings, David Hammett (Diane) of Marysville, Greg Hammett of Sabetha, KS, Brad Hammett (Julie) of Lawrence, KS, Jean Tripp (Dave) of Gardner, KS, Kevin "Arnie" Hammett of Marysville and George Hammett of Marysville.
A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later.
