He is survived by: his wife Sara Whelan (Lottridge); his son Andrew Whelan (Leah) of Wichita; his grandchildren, Bricen Gregory Whelan, Treyton Randall Whelan and Laikann Faye Whelan; his siblings, Tim Whelan (Kathy) of Joplin, MO and Karen Whelan (Gail) of Ozawkie; and his sister-in-law Heather Whelan of Carl Junction, MO. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
