Merle R. Schmidt Obituary
With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Merle R. Schmidt of Moundridge, Kansas, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on June 6, 2025 at the age of 89. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Abraham L. Schmidt and Esther Schmidt (Esau); his wife Vera Schmidt; and his sisters, Delores Schmidt, Betty Friesen and Joyce Toews.
He is survived by: his children, Ray Schmidt (Carol) of DeRidder, LA, Kenton Schmidt (Dena) of Transylvania, LA, Marlo Schmidt (Cindy) of DeRidder, LA, Leon Schmidt (Sondra) of DeRidder, LA, Lori Decker (Ronnie) of DeRidder, LA and Barb Dillon of Clear Lake, IA; and his sisters, Marjorie Schmidt of Moundridge, KS and Mary Ann Buller of Fort Scott, KS.. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 9th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Wednesday, June 11th 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 12th 2025 at 10:30 AM at the Highland Mennonite Church (171 Mennonite Church Loop, DeRidder, LA 70634).
Memorial contributions may be made to Highland Mennonite Church or Pine Village.
