With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Ronald K Schmidt (Newton, Kansas), born in Goessel, Kansas, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on May 15, 2026 at the age of 84. He was predeceased by: his parents, Ferd Schmidt and Edna Schmidt; his wife Judy Kochenower; and his brother Larry Schmidt. He is survived by: his daughter Kim Lewis (Jerry); his grandsons, Tyler Schmidt (Sara), Trey Schmidt and Brandon Lewis (Hailey); his son Craig Schmidt (Jody); and his grandchildren, Jayce Schmidt (Olivia Duerksen), Jerah Schmidt (Danielle), Javin Schmidt and Jayley Schmidt.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 21st 2026 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Petersen Family Funeral Home (215 N Main St, Newton, KS 67114). A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 22nd 2026 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Goessel Mennonite Church (109 S Church St, Goessel, KS 67053). A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 22nd 2026 from 2:45 PM to 3:45 PM at the Tabor Mennonite Cemetery (891 Chisholm Trail Rd, Newton, KS 67114).
