Lela Schmidt Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Lela Schmidt (North Newton, Kansas), who passed away on September 17, 2025 at the age of 98. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
As we bid farewell to this cherished soul, solace is taken in the memories held dear — the laughter shared, the wisdom imparted, the moments of quiet reflection in their presence. Though Lela may no longer walk among us, her spirit lives on in the echoes of her kindness, the warmth of her embrace, and the light of her enduring love.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Henry Kaufman and Lydia Kaufman (Voran); her husband Martin Schmidt; her brothers, Robert and Willard Kaufman; her son Micheal; and her daughter-in-law Debbie Schmidt.
She is survived by: her sons, David Schmidt and Butch Schmidt (Denise); and her daughter-in-law Melissa Schmidt. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
A reception will be held on Saturday, October 25th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Bethel College Mennonite Church (2600 College Ave, North Newton, KS 67117).
