He was predeceased by: his parents, Dorothy Frances Herl, Sr. (Karlin) and Alvin, Sr. Herl; his brother Donald "Donnie" Herl; and his father-in-law Ralph Schmeidler. He is survived by: his wife Karen Schmeidler of Mary's Church; his children, Aaron Herl (Shelby) of Hays and Alyssa Herl (Meny Rodriguez) of Great Bend; his siblings, Alvin Herl, Jr. (Amy) of Ogallah, Jeannette Augustine (Charles) of Ellis, Joyce Kinderknecht (Kenneth) of Collyer and Joan Neufeldt (Donovan) of Moundridge; and his granddaughters, Lilia and Kaeli. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
