He is survived by: his parents, Carlos Murphy and Barbara Murphy (Hamby); his wife Joanne Arleen Long; his sons, Kyle, Sean and Ryan; his brothers, Shannon and Scott (Marieke); his parents-in-law, Ron and Dianne Long; his sister-in-law Marianne D'Amato (Steve); and his nieces and nephews, Nigel, Seamus, Anthony, Kristen, Lauren, Audrey and Gina. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.

Memorials are suggested to the KU Cancer Center, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, or Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
