He was predeceased by: his parents, Maynard Kohout and Emma Kohout; his parents-in-law, Maurice Sr. and Helen Schmidling; and his siblings-in-law, Maurice Jr., Dennis Schmidling and Judy Schmidling.

He is survived by: his wife Sheila Kohout (Schmidling); his children, Michael Kohout (Karla) and Kelly Vitale (Michael); his grandchildren, Riley, Victor, Thomas Kohout, Salem and Amelia Vitale; and his sisters-in-law, Dorothy Schmidling and Karen Wallsmith (Dave).
