He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Atchison and Thelma Atchison (Adams); and his parents-in-law, Clifford Griffin and Evelyn Griffin. He is survived by: his wife Patricia Atchison of Ottawa, KS; his children, David Atchison of Ottawa, KS, Darin Atchison of Ottawa, KS and Marsha Atchison of Ottawa, KS; his brother Ronald Atchison of Princeton, KS; and his grandchildren, Kyle Atchison of Ottawa, KS, Aubrianna Jones (Chase) of Williamsburg, KS and Ashley Mijangos (Jose) of Ottawa, KS. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren.
