He was predeceased by : his parents, Ralph Eugene "Gene" Burt, Jr. and Mary Teresa Burt (Quinlan). He is survived by : his wife Martha Doggett; his daughters, Colleen (Eric Bloom), Katie (Ben Thompson) and Molly Burt; his brothers, Dan (Deb Burt) and Tim (Joan Burt); and his grandchildren, Beau, Addie and Graham.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.

“As an old friend of Gene's brother, Dan, I remember when he and Tim visited us on Cape Cod during the magical summer of 1971. I took the beach photos of these three scrambling dune the sand dunes. I found Gene to be friendly, funny and definitely his own man. I always thought how lucky Dan and Tim were to have such a great big brother!”

When I was diagnosed with prostate cancer a few years ago he provided a great inspiration to fight this dreaded disease. He will be a big loss.”
