He was predeceased by: his parents, Tony Schountz and Agnes Schountz (Tersina); his spouse Renola A. (Mertz); and his brother Jack Schountz. He is survived by: his sister Barbara Schountz of Pittsburg, KS. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations can be made to the SEK Humane Society.
