She was predeceased by: her husband James "Jimmy" Ward Sumpter; her son James Joseph Sumpter; and her parents, Charlie Knaup and Mary Knaup. She is survived by: her daughter-in-law Tonja Sumpter; her sisters, Darleen Bledsoe, Arlene Moyer and Sharon Shannon; and her grandchildren, Sean Sumpter, Tyler Sumpter and Shannon Spragg.
