He was predeceased by: his parents, William Schartz and Emma Schartz (Bush); his spouse Alys Jo Allen; and his siblings, Gene Schartz, Mickey Schartz, Timothy Schartz, Dennis Schartz and Nancy Schartz.

He is survived by: his children, Richard A. Schartz II (Diane) of North Carolina and Kelly J. Hensley-Miller (Norm) of Pittsburg; his siblings, Danny Schartz of Pittsburg and Melissa Lawrence of Scammon, KS; his grandchildren, Shannon Perry (Chris), Jimmy Hensley, Brandon Schartz (Kate), Meredith Walker (Mitch) and Miranda Schartz; his great grandchildren, Jay Perry (MaKayla), John Perry, Nora Schartz, Margo Schartz, Luca Schartz and Ada Schartz; and his great great grandchildren, James Perry, Grayson Perry and Aspen Easterly.

The family suggests memorials be given to Boy's Town.
