We announce the death of Stella Mae Thompson of Pittsburg, Kansas, who passed away on October 1, 2026, at the age of 101. Stella will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Joseph Begley and Vida Begley (Allen); her former husband William C. Shaffer; her husband Rex A. Thompson; her daughter Nancy L. Gilmore; and her stepson Thomas W. "Tommy" Thompson.
She is survived by: her children, Sandra S. Shaffer of Olathe, KS and William Kelly Shaffer of Pittsburg; her stepdaughter Barbara Rhodes (Ron) of Pittsburg; her son-in-law Leo Gilmore of Montgomery, TX; and her grandchildren, William D. Shaffer, Josh Gilmore, Samantha Gilmore Metzger (Logan), Drew, Matt, Tim Rhodes, Kelly Thompson and Abby Graham.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 8th 2026 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home & Crematory - Pittsburg (522 S Broadway St, Pittsburg, KS 66762). A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 9th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the same location.
Memorials may be made the SEK Humane Society; these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
